ATA Technology & Maintenance Council

What is TMC and What Does It Do?

The ATA Technology & Maintenance Council is a diverse group of industry professionals who work to improve truck equipment and technology. TMC develops industry-recognized recommended practices that are used by fleet managers to efficiently specify and maintain vehicles. The councils industry best practices also provide guidance to manufacturers in the design of their equipment. TMC began in 1956 when a small, but select group of maintenance directors sat down with representatives from the truck manufacturing community to discuss recurring equipment maintenance problems. Since then, TMC has grown into an organization of more than 2,600 members with representatives from virtually every sector of the industry: fleets, owner/operators, manufacturers, suppliers, service dealers, educators, press, association representatives and technicians.

What Do Industry Experts Say About TMC?

"There is no other organization where a fleet manager can find so many answers to their questions and opportunities to network with peers who face the same challenges or already have a solution to an issue that they are willing to share. Along with the knowledge you gain from other fleet managers, there is no other meeting that I know of that both manufacturers and vendors are represented by not only senior sales staff, but also the engineers that helped design and test the products they represent. I have gained a wealth of knowledge from the other members of this organization and over the years acquired a lot of life long friends."

     – J. David Foster, VP of Maintenance, Southeastern Freight Lines (TMC member since 1990)

"Any transportation maintenance professional - no matter fleet size - will gain from TMC membership. The industry networking opportunities, knowledge gained, from not only sharing ideas with peers, but having access to the “who’s who” in the transportation sector from both the fleet side and supplier side alike, is incredible. Like all organizations, what you put into it, is what you get out!"

     – Steph Sabo, Maintenance Mgr., Norrenberns Truck Service (TMC member since 1999)
